Welcome to Wild Waystation
I began this adventure three years ago and it’s been such an incredible ride filled with surprises & delights, as well as a few (or many) lessons learned.
What started as a microflower farm for locally grown & sourced dried florals, has become a wild space and a diverse microhabitat.
I look out my window and see a flurry of activity. What used to be quiet, empty lawn is now a space filled not just with blooms and foliage, but with multiple species of bees and insects zooming to and fro, butterflies flitting from bloom to bloom and birds perching and eating.
All of this revealed to me that what I love most is the cycles of life that a diverse yard facilitates and now I’m on a mission to convert 70% of my garden beds to native plants while I continue to plant more and shrink the lawn.

Each month I self-publish a digest-size zine filled with my documentation, in both words and images, of the changes and growth in the garden. The new and old species who show their faces, as well as the changes I see occurring naturally and the ones I choose to implement.
This zine is filled with my observations, intentions, lessons learned, tips for you to create your own backyard waystation and more.

At Wild Waystation I approach growing from a multifaceted approach. There are a lot of different plants in my space and they have many different purposes.
The native plants I grow thrive in the yard, require minimal to no additional watering once established and create food sources & habitats for pollinators and other insects.
Each year I grow a series of old favorites and new-to-me, with the goal being to increase the biodiversity of this little piece of land.

Every seed and plant we grow is individually selected for its color, texture, and sustainability in our local 6a growing zone. This attention to detail ensures that each of our creations is not only visually stunning but also environmentally friendly.
Our dried floral products are available in a range of sizes and price points.

Growing
Wild Waystation
Maybe Wild Waystation was born on a whim or maybe it was a lifetime of playing in the dirt. I guess it depends on how you look at it, but life is funny and if you think about it most things are like that.
Either way, Wild Waystation is many things. It’s a backyard full of blooms and it’s an ever-expanding pocket of lawn turned microhabitat located in mid Michigan.
I grow around 1000 sq ft of garden beds (and I’m always thinking about where I can expand next, this fall it’s a 450 sq ft rain garden project around our driveway culvert).
It’s a lot of trial and error. It’s a lot of happy successes and sad fails, but I’ve learned that each failure is just an opportunity for something new.
